History

This website is all bout the Municipality of Portmore that is located on the south east coast of the island of Jamaica in the Caribbean. The municipality was created over 40 years mainly as residence for the people of Kingston and Spanish Town (adjacent cities). In 2003 the community of Portmore was granted municipal status in recognition that it had become a city all of its own. In the last census there were 170,000 persons in the city. Portmore is the only city in Jamaica that has a directly elected mayor.

The website Portmore.info was created to replace Portmore.org. Portmore.org was officially launched on Aug. 1, 1998 in Greater Portmore by its owner Kennedy Reid. He intended that it should inform citizens about their community and garner support for community projects. Kennedy was at the time the chairman of the Greater Portmore Joint Council - an association 19 citizens associations.

In the first few years of operations Portmore.org got a lot of attention... mostly with people on the internet in Portmore. Go and read the old newsletters for an indication of its popularity as The stories are too numerous to recount. We will tell you that the Gleaner Newspaper devoted a whole 1/2 page to the site! Soon thereafter they launched a site called Go-portmore.com. It soon overtook our site in popularity, being sponsored by a huge corporation. Sadly, early internet sites did not make the promised millions people imagined and the site was soon canceled. Over the next few years Portmore.org became the number one site on Yahoo and Google when looking for 'Portmore'. We received over 100 visitors per day and e-mails from around the world. In 2006 we received over 20,000 unique visitors per year.

In 2007, in order to save money, the site was relaunched as Portmore,INFO. Within weeks we were back on top on google. This website is designed and owned by Kennedy Reid in partnership with Janette Clarke and Sheryl Reid. It is a private site and its contents are purely for your entertainment value only. We try to ensure that all information is accurate, but you use it at your own risk. This website has never make money, so it is a public serve. Our desire is that you ENJOY it!
