Photo History #1: EARLY YEARS

Slaves at Fort Augusta

After the abolition of the slave trade, the British would take slaves captured from US vessles to Port Royal and Fort Augusta. A photograph collector told Kennedy Reid that these were from some of the first "photos" taken in Jamaica. However the original pictures were never found. The drawings below are a depiction of (a photos of) slaves held at Fort Augusta.
