"break-ins" - Erica Madden ############################################################ "Erica Madden" Date: Wed, 30 Jun 2004 00:30:34 +0000 Hi Kennedy, I do agree with Wilmot-Simpson that "break-ins" is one of Portmore's best kept secret but we need to understand that its not easy to talk about. The truth is your personal space was entered by an unwelcomed guest. It like someone being raped. On the night of April 3rd, 2004, my car was broken into and my radio stolen and to date I still feel violated. I know that this is not easy to talk about and it was after I began sharing my experience that I discovered how many other persons had suffered the same fate. I am deeply saddened that our homes and communities by extension, is being over run by criminals and I dare say we allow them free access. I believe that we live in a selfish community as we all allowed the neighbour watch which was set up in several communities to fall by the way side. The criminals know that a chain is as strong as its weakest link, therefore we the law abiding citizens must rise up, stand and take our places in making our commiuntiies safe. I am, Erykah M. **************************************************** ***AdVT.******************************************** *** *** *** Lees Fith Avenue *** *** *** *** 'Visit us online at' *** *** http://www.leesfifthavenue.com/ *** *** *** *** *** ********************************************ADVT.*** **************************************************** **************************************************** ############################################################ 2. kiwanis club of Hellshire 1st anniversay - Patricia Smith ############################################################ From: "Patricia Smith" Subject: Fw: kiwanis Date: Wed, 30 Jun 2004 [section deleted] The kiwanis club of Hellshire celebrated its 1st anniversay on Monday June 21 2004 at the clubs meeting place, the Hellshire United Church. The function was well attended by fellow Kiwanians from Division 23 west and 23 east and members of the community. Guest Speaker at the function was Peter Bunting of Dehring Bunting and Golding. President Clive Beadle was proud of the achievements of the club in the past year. These included planting of signs in the community, painting pedestrian crossings in front of the Petcom gas station on the Helshire Main road and in front of the Braeton Primary School. Other projects include painting the Community Relations Offices of the Portmore Police in Association with the Kiwanis Club of South S Catherine. The basic school in Helshire Park has been adopted and a play area was constructed for the children. An ongoing project is the teaching of computer skills to boys in the Hellshire Park community on Saturday mornings. LG Daphne Innerarity congratulated President Clive on the achievement of this first milestone and wished him continued success. The huge birthday cake was cut by DP Odence Rose, the President from The Kiwanis Club of South St Catherine who formed the Hellshire Club and president Clive. After the formalities, those present were wined and dined. The evening came to a close at abut 11 pm when the happy throng wended their way down the hill to their respective communities **************************************************** Webmasters Contribution **************************************************** Congratulations to the Kiwanis club of Hellshire! ############################################################ 3. Getting a Mount Royal House - Vinnette Williams ############################################################ To: webmaster@portmore.org From: "Vinnette Williams" Subject: Interest Date: Tue, 29 Jun 2004 13:46:00 -0500 I have visited the site of Mount Royal and i am interested in acquiring one of the homes. I have e-mailed once before but got no reply. **************************************************** Webmasters Reply **************************************************** Vinnette, Visit Mount Royl Development Company above Jamaica National in the Portmore Pines Plaza in Portmore. I hear all the houses are gone, but I suppose some people will drop out. Give it a try! ############################################################ 4. Highway2000 taking us for a ride - Cynthia Vaughan ############################################################ te: Fri, 25 Jun 2004 From: "cynthia vaughan" Dear kennedy, I agree with Curn Harding. The Authorities are really taking us for a ride. I am a resident for tha last 32 years, and beforre I came to Portmore, I recall that Mandela Highway was used to get to Portmore when it was only Independence City, Naggo Head and the Port Henderson Road, where many people from Kingston came to eat fish and lobster. When Edgewater was built the Causeway was made to attract persons to the area. The houses were also airconditioned and carpeted as an added incentive as it took care of the mosquitoes. I don't think that it is fair to 'tax' us to and from home. When we are leaving to other areas eg MoBay, Ochi etc, then that is the time we need to pay the toll. Yes, we want to get to and from work quickly, and while I don't mind paying a fee for the road, it should not be forced on me in the way that it will be.I should decide which route I want to drive on. I guess that no one expected so many houses to be built so quickly. We are only being penalised because so many persons are living in Portmore. I hope someone will take up our cause. It is grossly unfair! It's good to be appreciated even as one has fun doing it... I hope others are also passing the newsletter on! In that way, we can be the true Portmore online e-newsletter ....and I can move to commercial viability:-) For now the effort is a nice hobby! Indeed, it's a real high knowing that others are seeing your work and it is helping others! Interesting! ############################################################ Here is an interesting thing said by our former owners... "With very few exceptions the sacredness of marriage is lost upon the negro, and due to his inferior nature he is prone to violate his marriage vows since for him the relation is simply a matter of convenience and gratification. Licentiousness and immorality run rampant wherever the negro is found. I have yet to encounter a planter who has succeeded completely in cultivating within his negroes the decency and virtue necessary to sustain their marital obligations." Slaveholder William Thomas Jackson Friends, let us not be hypocritical as this sorry slave owner! His true concern was with social and psychological control and NOT with a genuine interest in the sanctity and cohesion of black family life! Africans already had a great family and social structure before the devastation of slavery. In Jamaica today we need to remember our roots. We must all remember that a healthy families leads to healthy organisations and strong organisations leads to a prosperous nation. Too many of our organisations, from Churches to Politics, lack the democratic, structural, economic and moral integrity needed to serve the nation as it should be. If you are a dad, be a great dad! If you are business, be a great business! Whatever you are.... Why be Ordinary? Kennedy Reid [-----------------------THE END OF ENTRIES------------------------] Legal Notices - Please read 1.
