More info about Independence City - Andrea Huie ############################################################ From: "Andrea Huie" To: webmaster@portmore.org Subject: Re Portmore History Date: Wed, 7 Jul 2004 13:31:33 -0700 I am a Jamaican living in the USA and really enjoy your website which is informative, however I didn't see any information on it about Independence City. Could you please advise me where I can find info on Independence City. I would appreciate it. Thank you. Andrea Huie **************************************************** Webmasters Reply **************************************************** Dear Andrea, Thanks for the lovely comments! There is little else I can say about Independence City. If you want more information you would have to visit the UDC Library, WIHCON (the developers), or the Ministry of Housing. Call the Jamaican Embassy closest to you and ask them to give you the numbers to call her in Jamaica. If you can not come fot the information, then I know some Jamaican who would be happy to do the research for you (for a fee). The Fishing Village and Highway200 - Erica Madden ############################################################ TFrom: "Erica Madden" To: portmore_newsletter-owner@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [portmore_newsletter] Let's Talk! Date: Wed, 07 Jul 2004 19:43:01 +0000 Hi Kennedy, Can you inform me as to what will happen to that fishing village located next to the Causeway. I know that some discussion was taking place regarding its relocation but I don't know if a decision was reached. Is there an available drawing of the completed highway (the Portmore Phase) now under construction that citizens of Portmore and its environs can view. I really want to know what it will look like before its completion. I am Erica Madden **************************************************** Webmasters Reply **************************************************** Erica, The Highway2000 company is supposed to relocate the fishermen and vendors from the Causeway. I understand they are to build the fish market near the Portmore Mall for them. However, this was not an "official" word. I am not sure what is to happen. At the meetings with the community that I attended, there were no DETAILED drawing available, but I am sure they must exist. Therefore you need to call the Highway2000 offices for the answers. When you get the answers please tell me too! Sadly, a number of Portmore Projects are now doubtful. I understand that the Caribbean Estate housing schemes may not be built as there is a dispute between developers. Residents who were anxious to buy the homes are being turned away! I understand that E-Services Ltd. (the company that hires for e-commerce services,) has stopped recruiting. I understand that the Jamaica Football Federation is "rethinking" the Football Academy that was to be placed near the Mall. I hope this is not a trend! But life is like that. ############################################################ 4.
