TOLL ROAD POLL - Michelle Anderson ############################################################ 1. Ivan the Terrible comes, etc. ############################################################ Once again we are preparing for another Hurricane! So far we have escaped the storms and our relatives in Florida have been getting them! My Dear aunt in Fort St. Lucie was right where the storm came on shore in Florida and had to go to a shelter. Here in Jamaica we should start preparing for the storm. It should be here by Friday/Saturday... {I already hear thunder and my poor house leaks all over.} Over the last few weeks we have been suffering from a few Environmental issues... The City Dump has been burning out of control for the last 3 weeks. The authorities seem not to be able to stop it! Portmore is over 8 Km from it and yet we are choking from the smog. Then, last Sunday there was a huge black noxious cloud over Portmore. I traced it and found hundreds of tires burning by the Fort Augusta road. The heat was intense and the fire truck was helpless. It seemed that some ignorant fool set the fire and unleashed these cancer causing gases on us. A few days before that an aluminum company accidentally poisoned the Rio Cobre when acid leaked into that river. It killing the fish! This is serious as the river is a source of domestic and agricultural water for the St. Catherine Plains (on which Portmore resides)! We are in trouble as a country... and here comes Ivan. No wonder my pastor preached about "JUDGEMENT from God" last Sunday. While I can neither confirm nor deny his pronouncements... one thing is sure... it's time to pray and work! Today at 5 p.m. I'm going to an emergency meeting called by the municipality to deal with Ivan. Let's help each other as we Jamaicans normally do. Be safe everyone! **************************************************** ***AdVT.******************************************** *** *** *** Lees Fifth Avenue *** *** *** *** 'Visit us online at' *** *** http://www.leesfifthavenue.com/ *** *** *** *** *** ********************************************ADVT.*** **************************************************** **************************************************** ############################################################ 2. Each property offered for rental has been visited and photographed by us. We strive to make sure that the properties are exactly as seen on the website through re-visits to the properties and by asking property owners to notify us of any changes or enhancements to the properties. This ensures that they meet our standards for rental and that no property is misrepresented. We also offer economical transportation services, car rentals, airport pick ups, an all-inclusive package at a villa in Ocho Rios, spa weekends and a spa day package at a lovely and well equipped spa located by the beach and in the cool and serene hills of Jamaica. Greater Portmore Football Club - Delroy Spencer ############################################################ From: delroy spencer To: webmaster@portmore.org Subject: Greater Portmore Transfer Window for 2004/5 Date: Sat, 28 Aug 2004 15:40:41 -0500 As the closing of the transfer window draws nearer. Greater Portmore [football Club] has secured the sevices of their 18 old sensation, Errol 'Jabba' Stevens. Jabba has expressed an interest to represent his community for the upcoming football season. He is a Greater Portmore High School graduate who has done the Club well during his under 17 seasons and once in the Division Two season. he was loan to Portmore United during 2004 because of his ability and to get some experience and knowledge at the higher level. Jabba represented Portmore Garden in the St. Catherine Major League where he scored six goals. He went on to represent Santos in the Super League and scored in a Under 21 game against Portmore United. After his stint with Portmore Gardens. Santos informed us that Jabba is legally their player. Jabba was registered as a Santos player from a young age but didn't play for the club. He was being sought by Portmore United for the 2004/5 season from Santos but with the influence of his father he has come back home to Greater Portmore. Greater managed to transfer Jabba back to Greater Portmore through the KSAFA office. Jabba's talent was however spotted by Portmore United early last year in a pre-season game against the giant at our Sports Complex. Jabba was also called up for Jamaica Under 20 camp and admits that he has learnt alot an will be sharing his knowledge. During his two Under 17 seasons Jabba was a known goal scorer. He has the zeal to score goals. Gretaer Portmore his making an effort to retain their young talents. Hotel Information - Judith Powell ############################################################ Date: Fri, 20 Aug 2004 13:38:15 -0400 (EDT) To: webmaster@portmore.org Subject: First Page entry Hello, Mr. Reid I am inquiring about hotel information in the portmore area. It would be great to have access to this information, available on your site. Having the name of hotels & inns in portmore for vactioners, would be a benefit for portmore for those who love to stay in the area rather then in City (Kingston) or as far as Montego bay or elsewhere. If this could be added to your site it would be very much appreciated, as well as updating information with the most current year possible, I found alot of information is going back quite a few years. Thanks, Judith powell ******************** Webmasters reply ******************** Dear Ms. Powell, you make some good points... Please note that if the Internet were a profitable proposal, most of the businesses in Portmore would have a site of their own by now. They would advertise their prices and contact numbers on their own sites. Until then, my little effort will have to do. Now, it takes me a long time to get get around to updating the MANY pages on the site so do be patient... a me one. What I do know is that the prices for our "hotels" range from $2,000 - $4,000 Jamaican Dollars per night. They have ACs, pools, Cable, and other "unmentionables" for you to enjoy. Please budget to spend a minimum of $3,000 per day in Jamaica ($50 US). If you like, I could look for a "Bed and Breakfast" solution for you. That might be even cheaper. Good Luck! A friend of mine who just came back from a visit to Jamaica, was alarmed when he was approached by a lady who was trying to sell her 12 year old daughter to him for sexual favors. Child molesters, should b punished to the full extent of the law. ******************** Webmasters response ******************** Please tell your friend to report the mater to the Police as soon as practical!!!! In Jamaica, child molestation and prostitution are criminal offences that are not taken lightly!... I am happy that your friend was a decent person because if he were caught a Jamaican prison awaits... and they are not the "hotels" we see on American TV! TOLL ROAD POLL - Michelle Anderson ############################################################ om: "Michelle Anderson" To: webmaster@portmore.org Subject: TOLL ROAD-- POLL Date: Fri, 20 Aug 2004 07:28:10 -0400 I WAS LISTENING TO THE NEWS THIS MORNING IN REGARDS TO THE TOLL ON THE CAUSEWAY AND TO BE HONEST WHEN THE ORIGINAL TOLL WAS DONE EVERY MORNING AND EVERY EVENING WHILE THEY WERE OUT BY THE CAUSEWAY MY CAR WAS STOPPED AND I WAS ASKED THE SAME QUESTION "ARE YOU WILLING TO PAY A TOLL TO USE THE ROAD" AND MY ANSWER WAS NO WAY. HOW CAN THEY ASK ONE PERSON EVERY DAY TWICE PER DAY AND SAY THAT THEY HAVE ASKED 90% OF THE PORTMORE PEOPLE? WHAT ABOUT THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL IN PORTMORE. THEY OPERATE THEIR BUSINESS IN PORTMORE AND GOES TO KINGSTON NOW AND THEN? ARE THEY ASKED THE QUESTION? HOW ABOUT THE OLD PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN PORTMORE WHO ONLY GOES OUT WHEN THEY NEED TO GO THE KINGSTON PUBLIC HOSPITAL OR ANY OTHER HOSPITAL? A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO USES THE CAUSEWAY DOES NOT COME FROM PORTMORE THEY ONLY DRIVE THROUGH THERE (AS MY FRIENDS DO COMING FROM SPANISH TOWN) AS IT IS EASIER FOR THEM TO DO SO. THEY DON'T KNOW FOR SURE IF YOU LIVE THERE YES OR NO? CAN'T THEY DO IT LIKE CENSUS GO AROUND AND ASKED EVRY ONE IN PORTMORE THE QUESTION INSTEAD OF ASKING THE SAME SET OF PERSONS THE SAME SET OF QUESTIONS EVERY DAY? FOOD FOR THOUGHT. PORTMORE RESIDENT FOR 27 YEARS AND COUNTING. ******************** Webmasters response ******************** Dear 27 years resident. I hear the idea of a poll being branded about. I wonder what's the use of a poll... I mean, will the realities be changed by a poll? If the builders of Highway2000 had provided a NEW road, then I would not are what they charged to use the highway. They could change whatever the market would take. But in Portmore they are building a REPLACEMENT road for a road that already exist and is essential to the residents. In my view it can not be fair to provide a replacement road and charge $20,000 - $40,000 per vehicle per year! Because of this, we in Portmore should demand that the toll be kept 30% below the rate charged at other locations where a NEW road is being provided. In Old Harbour, the highway is a NEW road and Not a replacement. I understand there is a meeting on the matter at the Municipality office this evening at 7:00 p.m. Kennedy [------------------THE END OF ENTRIES-------------------] Legal Notices - Please read 1.
