Portmore demands an alternate route - the protest. ############################################################ Well, here it is..... you heard it here first.... Unless stopped by the Police, the Portmore Residents are going to make a peaceful public street protest on Saturday January 29, 2005 from 7:30 am - 11 pm. to highlight their desire for an alternate route to Highway2000 As I understand it, the objectives of the peaceful street march are: 1) To get the Transport Minister to meet with Portmore residents... particularly with the Joint Citizens Assn. 2) To express the need for a suitable alternative route, if the Causeway is to be removed. 3) To highlight and draw public attention to the concern of residents about the Highway 2000 plans. The protesters are not planning to block roads; and much concern has been expressed that this should not occur. The majority of protesters are NOT opposed to using the toll road nor to paying a toll... they are concerned that Portmore is trapped into using the toll road as the number of alternate routes are deliberately reduced. The leaders of the protest have made a very deliberate attempt to minimise the participation of persons directly affiliated with any political party (such as myself and JLP Councillors). However, supporters of both parties are welcome to the protest. By way of details... Participants will meet at 7:30 am by Burger King. They will march along the Causeway to the intersection with Port Henderson. They will have pre-prepared and pre-approved placards. The Protest will end at 11:00 am You will be informed it there are any changes.... ############################################################ 2 Action for Jamaica NOW! - DC ############################################################ From: DC Date: Thursday, January 20, 2005 09:22AM Subject: Re: Action for Jamaica NOW! Reidy... wats going on otherwise? 61 DEAD IN 15 DAYS! MY GOD! We need to do something immediately and differently in Jamaica.... u know I realise that polititians in Jamaica lack charisma, care, sensitivity and values. Most of them have had live relatively well and besides they are even a greedy and manipulative. MANLEY A TURN INNA HIM GRAVE. DEM INSULT GARVEY. DEM FORGET ALL THE NATIONAL FIGURES WHO HAVE TOILED TO BUILD THIS NATION. ONLY THING IS THAT FI DEM POCKET MUST GET FAT WHILE DEM CREATE AND IGNORE GANG ACTIVITIES AND ORGANISED CRIMES..; WHILE DEM BRAINWASH PICKNEY MAN WOMAN AND CHILD IN EVERY RIDICULOUS BUT EFFECTIVE WAY. Men in Jamaica tend to be warped-minded... i REALISE AND MUST ADMIT. I really would have loved to see a woman: Ms Haughten... in power. Why is Seaga crying? At his age wat the hell does he want in politics: is he come kinda of a nice caricature of Pinochet? Can't everyone see that Bruce is a crazy person; he's not stable hopping from here there and everywhere. But then again probably only the dunce, unaware and popular corrupt supports is return. And I just cant imagine a few more years with PJ; what the 'backside' is his agenda? So you see at present, Jamaica is landlocked in leaders who are completed ' nul'. Back to solutions: can't the government urgently direct some practical attention to education, social welfare: leisure, counselling and even national feeding programme in order to distract criminals? Trus mi the situation is now on the verge of crippling Jamaica.Where is the government's attention: highway 2000?!! No big long drawn out talks about the social issues, problems, help and solutions please; action now, now, now!! We can't allow criminals to be taking innocent lives while we ignore the matter that their lives too are insecure and pessimistic. That's one cause of their barbarianism. While there are menace in society remember that our lives depend on their livelihood. So we need to strike the balance. While we enforce bulldog law and order. Enforce a little sypathy and understanding by setting up social infrastructure and counselling to reintigrate and promote a better essence to cooperate in societal development. Tell everyone seh a me serh dat... an' mi sure seh it's not hard to understand. Everyone know's wat to do. Ciao... take care and protect your family. Don't go down town. Coronation market at nights. ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* Dear DC, I can feel your anger and frustration about the level of Violent deaths in Jamaica since the start of the year! What a shame and trouble on us!!!! The worst thing Jamaicans can do at this time is to panic! We must keep our cool and use our heads. It's time for 'honest prayers', 'considered plans', and 'concerted action'. Painting caricatures of our leaders may be analeptic, but does very little to solve the real and complex problems we face. let's leave the vituperative talk to Mutty Perkins and the like minded. let us turn our energy to solutions. Indeed, we need to ENCOURAGE our leaders (good or bad) to rise up and make the right moral choices and resource sacrifices.. that we ourselves are willing to make. I have no other country but this one, so if a gun man kills me, a jus suh... mi gone to heaven early! I refuse to be fearful. For me, fear should guide one's action not dictate it! I am still going to support the Police, to participate in politics, to defend human rights, I am going to enjoy my country, and I am still going to Coronation market! D, I appreciate your love and concern. Kennedy PS It must be cold in France at this time... the North Coast is still very peaceful and sunny. 'Goodness' must still be holding ground. **************************************************** ***AdVT.******************************************** *** *** *** Lees Fifth Avenue *** *** *** *** 'Visit us online at' *** *** http://www.leesfifthavenue.com/ *** *** *** *** *** ********************************************ADVT.*** **************************************************** **************************************************** ############################################################ 3. Response to Conliffe's previous letter - Carrol McLean ############################################################ Date: Tue, 18 Jan 2005 19:20:55 -0800 (PST) From: "Carrol McLean" Subject: Response to Conliffe To: kennedyreid@yahoo.com Hi Conliffe I am a bit surprised that you think so little of the PCAC and the Portmore Joint. Some of the research you referred to in your letter has already been done by both groups and where they were not done information was acquired from NROC. The majority of the residence of Portmore have no problem with the toll road, what we want is a suitable alternative that runs through our community and not the Mandela highway. Hope you will attend the Joints meetings every 1st Sunday at the Edgewater community centre. We can always do with some help and hopefully learn from each other. I believe Kennedy's response was very good. Carrol. ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* Carrol McLean is the Immediate Past President of the Portmore Joint Citizens Association. Welcome to the Newsletter Carrol! New Bridge - Impact on Environment - Conliffe Wilmot-Simpson ############################################################ Date: Mon, 17 Jan 2005 05:23:48 -0800 (PST) From: "Conliffe Wilmot-Simpson" Subject: New 6 Lane Bridge - Impact on Environment To: portmore_newsletter-owner@yahoogroups.com Kennedy, Over the years, I have read articles by persons with environmental concerns, who complained that the causeway construction has restriced the mixing of the waters of the Harbor with that of Hunts Bay, and that the environment in and around the bay suffered greatly. It is now very late in the day to be thinking of this, but is there any chance that the new structure can undo some of this constriction and allow better exchange? What if that headland which now houses the WIHCON site(was partially removed and the entrance to the Bay reconfigured. Perhaps someone in the environmental arena would like to comment. Regards, Conliffe ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* When the transport Minister Meets with residents we can all ask this question of him or the experts from Highway2000. I am interested in this 30 year old debate! On another matter... Based on Global trends... Air Jamaica will NEVER see profit. So Why not let more competitive airlines carry our hotel guests to the island? If the price is right, someone will always be willing to fly them here. And if the north coast guest counts fall, then let the hotels reduce their rates or use creative marketing to get them here. If the hotel investors don't see the self interest of keeping Air Jamaica flying, why should the tax payer carry on with this loss making venture? We are using the very tax we collect from the hotels. What sense does that make? I think the government should sell Air Jamaica immediately! Sentiments don't cut it any more... sell the stupid thing now. **************************************************** ***AdVT.******************************************** *** *** *** Lees Fifth Avenue *** *** *** *** 'Visit us online at' *** *** http://www.leesfifthavenue.com/ *** *** *** *** *** ********************************************ADVT.*** **************************************************** **************************************************** ############################################################ 5. Count me in - cynthia vaughan ############################################################ Date: Mon, 17 Jan 2005 06:49:49 -0800 (PST) From: "cynthia vaughan" Dear Kennedy, On the issue of the 'Toll Road', I would like to point out that some of us have to go back and forth several times on occasions to address important domestic matters, that cannot be done in the Corporate Area. Therefore we are concerned about the toll. In addition, it is being forced on us because of the financial gains it will bring. Another thing ,is that many of us who have lived here for 32 years and more recall that we never had a problem using the Causeway until they built all those 'other units'. If it were not so we would not have a problem, so count me in on the protest. I will also be bringing others with me. Regards, c Vaughan ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* Well.... January 29th is the date of the peaceful protest. from 7:30 - 11:00 a.m. starting at the Portmore Mall by Burger king. I am not sure I will be there from the start as I have church, but I shall try to make it. Kennedy. [--------------------THE END OF ENTRIES-------------------] Legal Notices - Please read 1.
