Somehow in the last newsletter I did not see that DC used the big "S" word in the middle of his letter to us! I would have deleted it.... Sorry if you were offended. Interestingly, we train our kids to turn off TV programs with offensive language or with "wine-up wine-up" (the word we use for sex on TV)..... This is good, however when their mother and I are watching a GOOOD movie they insist that we turn off the TV once they hear or see something offensive!! As you can imagine.. we end up watching TBN and news! I suppose we have to live what we teach... (laugh) ############################################################ 2. Is the protest still on? - Andrea L ############################################################ From: Andrea L Subject: PROTEST Date: Fri, 28 Jan 2005 Hi Kennedy: Is the protest still on? I partly heard this morning's news that the Government was trying to avert protest with the Portmore community or something to that effect.... So is it still on....? ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* I called the leaders of the Portmore Joint Citizens Association and they say it is absolutely still on for tomorrow by the Mall starting at 7:30 a.m. They report that Minister Pickersgill called them yesterday and was attempting to have a meeting on Sunday, but they felt it was too late and that he did not come with any new proposal. Additionally, they say that he had not spoken to them since December 2004. As you know Andrea, I am a member of the PNP and as such I have a vested interest in seeing that the government does well. I feel sure that if they had taken the bull by the horn, Portmore would understand the issues they face. In my mind they have taken this matter too lightly as it has been months since the Prime Minister mandated a meeting, but up to now... The PNP my side, but mi SAD and SHAME... ############################################################ 3. Communication is important - Marcia Hextall ############################################################ FDate: Wed, 26 Jan 2005 From: "Marcia Hextall" To: portmore_newsletter-owner@yahoogroups.com Hi Kennedy, Let me congratulate you on your newsletter, that is for actually doing it (smls). So often we hear how communication can be improved but noone really takes the steps to make it so. I was able to inform my Portmore friends of the protest and I have referred them to you for membeship. I look forward to lots more interesting adn informative reading for the city fo the future. Marcia Hextall ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* Thanks Marcia! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Lees Fifth Avenue 'Visit us online at' http://www.leesfifthavenue.com/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ############################################################ 5. My favourite drum - XX ############################################################ To:Kennedy Reid Hope to see some pics from the March on the website. Pity the Portmore Ministers Fratenity could not see the relevance of mobilising the able bodied faithful to be part of the protest ..... then representatives of all denominations would be olut 'evangelising' ( sitting in the pews praying has its effects but social participation )... especially as a way of ensuring that it stays peaceul and an example of demoracy at work, and to keep the derisive elements who might try to malign the event at bay. To follow up on what ' DC ' said, and beat my favourite drum, it is things like parks and gardens that will help to soften the evil hopeless souls. WE do not need more concrete buildings to display more things that people cannot partake of (shopping PLAZAS). Establish a park on that lot behind burger king, sponsor concerts, parade beauty (bougavilla has many colours and is low maintainance) that is free to enjoy these are the little things that will make a positive difference for the minds of citizens. cheers KEN ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* Dear Friend, For some reason I lost the first part of your e-mail in the copy process and I don't want to publish your name without the signature. Sorry about that. On the matter of the protest... Actually, there are Pastors who are organising their churches to participate! Over 50 persons turned out at the last planning meeting. In fact, there were even activist for both major political parties on hand.... and the Portmore Joint is trying to keep politics from entering into this thing.
