More protest - The Drama Continues! - Kennedy ############################################################ The leaders of the Portmore Alternative Road Protest say that they have not hear from the Minister of Transportation, so they are going to him. This Friday, they are inviting all of Portmore to stand outside the offices of the Ministry of Transportation in HWT between 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. to demand that he meet with the community in Portmore. Very interesting.... My opinion is that the minister should not fool himself that the people Portmore are going to give up this matter. These are the same people who fought over 10 years to have municipal status for Portmore! I highly recommend to the minister that he plans extensive community meetings in Portmore to explain to the people: 1) WHY their leaders took the route of taking away the Causeway and 2) WHAT are the benefits to Portmore of going this route. These meeting should be frank and direct; and not just be filled with PNP supports and JLP antagonist, but ensure that the ordinary Portmorian who genuinely wants a clear understanding is present also. I am appealing for this as a Portmorian AND as a known supporter of the PNP. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Lees Fifth Avenue 'Visit us online at' http://www.leesfifthavenue.com/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ############################################################ 2. The account number to which all contributions should be made is 0300116. Rev. Barrington Soares Chairman ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* Rev. Soares Thanks for the news! I have always wondered if the legal route is the best idea? I would love to see MEANINGFUL NEGOTIATION... and less expense. With the recent successes of the Pearnel Charles Case against the JLP, and of the Opposition case against the route to the Caribbean Court, this action too may seem to have a chance! Kennedy ############################################################ 3. Greater Portmore Joint Council - Andrea S. Jones ############################################################ Subject: GPJC Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2005 15:15:22 -0500 From: "Jones, Andrea" To: webmaster@portmore.org Dear Webmaster, There was a ceremony held in November 2004 celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the GPJC, it was also the launch for an Environmental Project and opening of an exhibit at the Library . I have browsed through the website but have not seen any mention of this event. If I have overlooked this item, Kindly direct me to where I may find it. If it is not there, then could you possible get some information on it. The exhibition had information on Disaster Preparedness and Highlighted activities of the GPJC and its communities. It would be a good browse for visitors to the sight to see some recent activities of the communities other than focussing on the Toll. I found the site overall to be very informative on the Portmore Community and I must Congratulate you on that. Keep it up! Best regards, Andrea S. Jones Environmental Officer Regulations, Standards & Guidelines Branch National Environment & Planning Agency, NEPA 10 Caledonia Avenue, Kingston 5 Tel: (876) 754-7540 (ext. 2325) Fax: (876) 754-7599 (876) 754-7594 [E-mail deleted] ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* Dear Andrea, Yuh really mek mi feel bad! Since leaving office as the Chairman of the Greater Portmore Joint Council I have tried to keep up with its affairs, but they keep changing the meeting places and times, or informing me very late about events. Consequently I have very little to place on the site. You could help by sending me the information and pictures you would like to see posted. That would help. Also, Information about disaster management is on the site and you should use the search feature to find it. I went to the Greater Portmore exhibition and much of the information was from the site. With all the criticisms about the site of late, it is now very apparent to me that my one-man show can not continue. I The demands for a better site has grown larger than one person... So I will now have to expand control to others. I am thinking of having a conference in March so that all persons interested in working as partners of the site may do so. What do my readers think? (I work the graveyard shift.) The OBSERVER clearly has much better coverage of local (parish) sports than the GLEANER. Between you and me, I am a member of Reggae Boyz Supporterz Club www.reggaeboyzsc.com and we are a contributor to Independence City Football Club. (I am not Jamaican.) It's a long story about how I got involved, but that's for some other time. A group of people, Independence City Alumni, people who used to live in Independence City, have launched their own website, www.independencecity.org They will be hosting a dance on Feb. 26 in Hollywood, Florida. More information is on the website. Anyone who used to live in the Portmore area is welcome. IC Alumni is raising money for longer-term community projects, such as a local school, and to build a fence around the practice field. On the other hand, Reggae Boyz Supporterz Club is involved in donating equipment directly to Independence City Football Club. There has been some success. ICFC won the Portmore U17 championship in 2003, and the Portmore adult championship in 2003-04 and a promotion to Division One. IC also won two rounds in the St. Catherine Happy Sutherland Knockout tournament. round of 16, they gave National Premier League team Portmore United all they could handle before losing 2-0. Bruce ############################################################ 5. Nuh badda get upset - Andrea L ############################################################ From: "Andrea L" Date: Tue, 08 Feb 2005 15:44:52 -0500 Hi Ken... Boy, every time that I read the numerous comments on your board...I am even more proud of you and the team for this EXCELLENT site. Great idea! Nuh badda get upset ova di comments from Renatha...I just luv your penultimate paragraph and subsequent end comment... you couldn't have said it better!!! Now I agree with you that shame on the Minister to try to manipulate the process by attempting a last minute meeting. Let me take this opportunity to say thumbs up to all those persons who turned up for the protest... GET UP, STAND UP... STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHT...GET UP, STAND UP...DON'T GIVE UP THE FIGHT!! The cause is indeed a plausible one!! I stand ready to contribute to the legal fee and I KNOW most of Portmore citizens stand ready too. You know Ken...I was speaking with someone about the whole issue of the Causeway - and the person gave me a good analogy, "a Government building you an upstairs house and years later, forcefully removing the staircase. And so, in order to go upstairs you have to pay to have it rebuilt". At first I was thinking to myself that a good compromise would be for Portmorians to pay $5 in and $5 out. But then the valid point was brought out that we NEED an alternative non paying route to get out of Portmore...and in, too. Hence, paying a toll must be a CHOICE... and that choice CANNOT be Mandela Highway...!! KEEP ON KEEPING ON...UNITED WE STAND...DIVIDED WE FALL... ONE LOVE & BLESSINGS... Andrea ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* Dear Andrea L, Thanks for the encouragement! Criticism is like medicine. It is good for you but hard to swallow. It is best sandwiched between sweet compliments. With the latest negative comments I am more bemused than upset. Now, for the record... there is no TEAM working on the site. A me one. I have a good friend, Janette Clarke, who does the marketing. She works VERY hard, but we mostly get promises of support. What many advertisers don't know is that lately our hit rate has gone up to 60 unique visitors per day! This is very much higher than most other websites world wide! More later. Kennedy ############################################################ 6. "Youth Fraternal" to be launched - Jerome Moodie ############################################################ Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2005 21:32:48 -0800 (PST) From: "Jerome Moodie" Subject: Launch of Portmore Youth Fraternal Brothers and Sisters, Greetings.
