Will I fall sick? - Christian Chidimma Bonisch ############################################################ Date: Thu, 7 Jul 2005 16:35:55 -0400 (EDT) Hi ! Everyone how are you? My name is Christian . I am living in london, My question is and i want to mknow if you could kindly help me, because I am travelling to Portmore jamaica this year for the first time. And I would like to know what kind of vaccination do i have to take , and drugs if possible, actually basicly everything an information , for mr not to fall sick . I nfor mation if it is save to got o restaurants there with out getting sick and so on. Please help me, I am travveling ths year on the 7/12/2005 This year. Thanks and God bless you all . With kind regards , you r Christian Chidimma From london ****************** Webmaster's Reply ****************** Christian, Do not worry. Jamaica receives almost a million visitors per year and the facilities here are good. You may take a flu vaccine, but generally the water is treated and the restaurants are clean. Additionally, the international restaurants (Burger King, KFC, etc.) are all here. The Jamaican restaurants are most as good (Mothers, Tastees). If you are worried, stay at a top luxury hotel in Kingston, but I recommend Jewels or Casa Blanca (my favourite) out here in Portmore. Finally, there has is purified bottled water all around. Come enjoy Jamaica! Dangerous Marl Trucks and traffic - samuel mundell ############################################################ Date: Mon, 13 Jun 2005 23:13:35 -0400 (EDT) From: portmo@portmore.org Add to Address Book To: webmaster@portmore.org Subject: Message from Front page With reference to those marl trucks transporting marl for the highway.I think they are the most dangerous set of drivers moving around in Portmore.I have seen them drive out on main road forcing you to stop, driving through intersection without mercy ,overtaking line of traffic and is rarely you will see the police stop one of them. Something else do the people of portmore realised that since they have change the road network at zinc factory the traffic has gotton so bad i use to leave portmore at 7 am and reach halfway tree by 8:10 am since then i leave portmore at 7 am and i cannot reach halfway tree until 9 to 9:30 am i might soon loose my job and everyone is silent. we need help ********************* Webmaster's Comment ********************* Actually Samuel, I think the Executive Drivers are the worst. Coming down I95 (the highway from Mandela) in the mornings they run the traffic on the left lane off the roads! I used to hear of it before I experienced it myself. I was quite shocked. I have started leaving at 6:00 am for work at 8:00 am Gas is so expensive I can not afford to be in the 7:00 am traffic. I hope the authorities see your e-mail and do something about it in general. Here are my priorities... 1) Do something permanent about the Riverton City Dump 2) Fix the pot holes all over. Portmore United is national premier league Champion - RJR ############################################################ Tue Jun 28, 2005 Portmore United takes Wray and Nephew Premier League title Portmore United gained its third hold on the Wray and Nephew national premier league title by defeating defending champions Tivoli 1-0 at the National Stadium Monday evening. Raimford Martin, Braeton FC - Bruce Walters ############################################################ Date: Fri, 10 Jun 2005 11:52:09 EDT Subject: RE: Raimford Martin, Braeton FC To: kennedyreid@yahoo.com Kennedy, Regarding Raimford Martin who is trying to contact Braeton FC: I work with Independence City FC, the St. Catherine Parish Division One Champions. I have asked my friends at Indy City for information. If Mr. Martin does not get any direct information, he should email stcatherinefa@yahoo.com I was surprised to find out that Mr. Martin lives here in Milwaukee, as I do, and fairly close to where I live. Maybe some day I'll see him at Bethel Tabernacle's monthly rib and chicken barbeque. (Bethel is the only Jamaican church in Milwaukee.) Motorist are feeling the pinch - Samuel Mundell ############################################################ Date: Mon, 13 Jun 2005 00:40:45 -0400 (EDT) I note carefully all the comments about the toll road, but now we motorist are feeling the pinch with the traffic the large trucks and the constant changing of the road. these trucks carrying marl are so dangerous on the road with no regards for us motorist and i here no one saying anthing i think these trucks should work at night. i hope some one will look into this matter ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* I asked a friend of mine if now that there are traffic problems he is willing to pay the toll...I was expecting a YES, but he says he is packing his bags to leave Portmore! I suppose it's difficult to change some minds, but many persons can not wait to see the improvements the road will bring. I will pay the toll to get to work on time (but I still think I should have a choice) I know some of the authorities will see your letter and consider your suggestions. Certainly, the truck thing is worth a newspaper story! How about it Portmore Star? We need help. Kennedy ############################################################ 10. Breaches - seymour harley ############################################################ Date: Mon, 6 Jun 2005 21:46:23 -0700 (PDT) From: "seymour harley" Kennedy: Very good work! Thanks for the info. By the way, know of any plans to deal with residents' breach of the building code by extending their premises into and fencing-off spaces between properties zoned for pathways? We are at fault for having slept while people abused the priviliges afforded them. It must be corrected though. Is there legislation being looked at which will see some heavy fines for persons falling in such a category? Let me know. Seymour. ******************* Webmasters Comment ******************* Seymour, So many persons believe it is their right to break the House Covenants that its overwhelming! Most do not see the value of following the rules and the few who do are far between. The whole matter is difficult because everyone has a good "excuse" for what they do. Indeed, the harsh economic times is often used to excuse the offences, the offenders and the defenders. There are serious practical implications, social contradictions and conflicts... In the 2 and 3 bedroom communities neighbours battle each other over: 1) keeping the pathways open, 2) laying fences correctly from the pegs, 3) the location of garbage bins, and 4) Commercial activities in the homes. In the quad house communities of Greater Portmore the challenges are greater. There are disputes about: 1) the parking spots, 2) The parking of trucks and buses in front of neighbours 3) the location of common garbage collection areas, 4) the uses and abuse of the pathways and waterways, 5) the clogging of shared manholes, 6) Commercial activities. One lady was abused by her neighbour because he built his house extension with no regard for garbage space and therefore had to place his bin in front of her yard. She went to the police, but alas... Then there was the case of the household which built a huge receptacle at the end of the street because they did not think a bin looked good in front of their "luxury" home. I had to try to convince the offended party not to use a machete to settle the matter! Some persons are dividing the pathways between themselves thereby preventing access to the other neighbours located in the middle of a block of houses. One lady complained to me that she called the Municipal Office to report a matter only to be told to put the dispute in writing. Fearing for her safety she did not bother to go any further. I have suggested to the Municipality that they should place issues on a computer database so that responses can be effected in a systematic manner instead of on the whims of the Councillors. Yes, complaints are placed in a hardcopy file, but no one can tell me on the fly the number of complaints per month or how many are solved. (eg. How many complaints about blocked fire Hydrant ) Take the case of house shops... 50% of the residents use the house-shops, but 99% do not want it beside THEIR homes and know that it should not be in the area. When you listen to these people, a few questions will show that they are not fussing about a shop, just it's location. If you take up the case, you offend half the people. I heard of a case in 3 North where a resident had a shop as one neighbour and a doctor's office on the other side! Another interesting case is that of the open "green" spaces that were left in Greater Portmore by WHICON. When WIHCON is asked they say these spaces are for the residents. They claim that they did not develop these areas because the residents do not take care of the parks.... But whose worry is this? Whole sections of the community now "fight" over the use of these parks. Some want a walking garden, others want to grass them to prevent dust, while the youth want to play football in a dust bowl. In 2 North a whole "park" has been "captured" by the Old Braeton youth. In another nearby scheme a church has used its clout to extend its stay in the common park for months! One can only hope that one day all this will change and it will not be too late for common sense and decency to triumph. Good Luck!
