Updated pictures you will love - Kenendy Reid ############################################################ What a judgement pan wi yah! Weh wi going get money fi fix pat hole? Hurricane Wilma has dumped so much water on Jamaica that many main roads have become obstacle courses. I watched as car after car burst tires in one Hagley Park pot hole! The Causeway leading to Portmore was blocked by water yesterday. My car swam through the Hagley Park road and shut off by a gas station with the engine flooded. It is now taking 3-5 hours to get to Portmore! Not willing to face the traffic I stayed in Kingston last night! Hey Kevin how did Caymanas Islands manage? Dear Bert in Florida. Jamaicans are praying for you all! Half of our relatives are there. The Portmore website was recently updated so let me tell you about it..... The Portmore United Football Club is located at Braeton and are the National Champions. Portmore is very fortunate to have them here! Well, recently the Municipality honoured them with a parade through the city. They were then feted by Ken's Wildflower Restaurant and Bar. Mayor Lee says the event was an attempt to integrate the team into the community of Portmore and to celebrate their victories. It was a great event and a wonderful gesture by the Municipality. Unfortunately it was not well attended by the public, but I a sure the team enjoyed the attention. The road tour did not get to go to all of Portmore and Hellshire as time ran out. Click on the link below to view pictures of the event... http://www.portmore.org/album/album203.html I captured quite a bit of crime scenes while on Holidays in Portmore. Unlike what many persons believe the police are very active in the communities while we are all at work. I even "captured" a car thief! Click below to see the crime scenes... http://www.portmore.org/album/album201.html Well Highway2000 is progressing and we all can’t wait to use it! Click on the link below to see the activities so far... http://www.portmore.org/album/album205.html Local Government Elections will be due next year and we all need to start evaluating the work of the Council Members. I am not offering myself this time around, but I could point out a few dead-heads that need to be replaced. However, I will play it safe and point just out three standing members! Councllor Thomas (PNP) is one of the best representatives I know! He takes his job very seriously and has recently opened an office in his division! Councllor Blake (JLP) is also outstanding... he works hard and showing a genuine concern for his constituents. Mayor Lee (PNP) has made a great attempt to do all that the citizens had hoped he would. His success has been limited only by resources and not by any poverty of ideas and energy. Now, If you think that YOUR Councillor should have been mentioned And “ Kennedy a fool!” then please feel free to tell me about him/her and I will publish it! Click below to see a picture of the First Portmore Municipal Council... http://www.portmore.org/album/album204.html This September, the JLP called for a Nation wide protest to confront the government with the problems being experienced by the people. In particular they wanted to highlight the high fuel, electricity, and food bills. Persons were invited to stay at home and to stage peaceful street protest. Most persons appeared to have stayed home, but the street protests were not so well attended. May road were blocked. Of interest to Portmore, two Councillors (JLP) from the area arrested on littering charges. The police allege that they were involved in the blocking of roads some time between 4-5 a.m. Both Councillors, on separate occasions, told me that the charges are false. One accused the police of having a political motivate and further stated that she was actually on the phone with a Radio Station to warn Portmore residents that the roads were blocked. See the Portmore leg of the National Protest below... http://www.portmore.org/album/album202.html On a lighter note... While at home on holidays, I was asked by a neighbour to venture into the woods behind our scheme to speak to the coal burners. They had "invaded" the area and set our noses on fire with the burning. I ended up befriending the fellows and was given a lessons in coal burning. I gave one of them a waterboot and they offered me ital "rasta" dumplings and a free bag of coal in return! Coal burning is an old tradition. See it on the link below ... http://www.portmore.org/album/album200.html Finally, I have updated the accidents page with ... more accidents! See it at ... http://www.portmore.org/album/album192.html Please enjoy the Portmore Website and do send this newsletter to others for me! OK? Horrific Alternate Route to Portmore - Patrick Davidson ############################################################ Date: Tue, 18 Oct 2005 09:14:23 -0700 (PDT) From: "patrick davidson" To: portmore_newsletter-owner@yahoogroups.com Hi Kennedy, good day to u sir. I dont have a camcardor, but it would be good for someone who have a vidoe camera to take a shot of the state of our alternate route (Mandela). This road is like this anytime we have a good drizzle, so can you imagine a good shower. ........................ Webmaster's comment ........................ Well this is one of the things we should DEMAND from the government. Since they have designated that the Mandela Highway is an adequate alternative to the replaced Causeway, then it needs to be upgraded to fulfill that role adequately. After any rain... and after these Wilma rains... the 4 lane Mandela Highway is reduced to 2 lanes. Yesterday persons were forced to take the 'alternate' route since the Causeway was effectively blocked by water. Persons tell me they stayed in traffic for 4-6 hours to go 13 miles! Mandela MUST be improved! Call your Councillors and speak to the 3 Member of Parliaments for the Portmore area about this! I will also raise the issue with them. I was hoping to go to Jamaica to see Independence City FC make their debut in St. Catherine Parish Major League, The league was scheduled to start October 13, but the league schedule has been pushed back one week for some reason, possibly due to all the rain.
