April 27, 2007 Hi Friends and Acquaintances (you choose…with a smile), As most of you are aware, since November 2005, almost a year after leaving JPSCo, I have been hosting a discussion show called HELLO NEIGHBOUR on the # 3 station, LOVE 101FM. The time: 10:30am – 11:00am, every Wednesday. The primary purpose of this Programme is to inspire Jamaicans/the world to become more neighbourly and willing to see problems as opportunities for success rather than recipes for failure. It seeks to connect people with people, through the power music, positive thoughts and inspirational readings, in order that they might provide support for one another This Programme does not subscribe to the notion of “the haves and have nots” but to the idea that everyone has something that can be shared with someone else, thus making that other life a little richer. **PLEASE CONTINUE READING Through this programme, persons with special challenges are not only provided with verbal advice from their “neighbours”, but with practical/workable solutions, especially, from those who may have gone through similar experiences and are willing to help others. Hundreds of individuals have received assistance from their “neighbours”in the form of: prayers, counselling, visits, clothing, food items, medication, lunch money and text books (for school children), sewing machines, beds, refrigerators, gas stoves etc. As a result of this out pouring, drop-off points are being established around the island and a distribution/call centre has been set up to process gifts. As “neighbours” extend a helping hand to”neighbours”, strangers are breaking down barriers and becoming friends. NOW FOR THE BIG STORY! Since it takes cash to care… “HELLO NEIGHBOUR” plans to host a Fund-raising Fair, on Labour Day, Wednesday, May 23, 2007 under the theme “Labour for your Neighbour”. Through this letter we are inviting you to give support to the event. The Fair seeks to raise funds while giving special meaning to labouring for the improvement of others. It will take place at the Police Officer’s Club, Hope Road , Kingston , from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.The primary purpose of the fund-raising is to provide financial stability for the movement which, apart from inspiring neighbourliness, has been enabling unemployed, elderly, widows and other needy persons to start small businesses through financial contributions. Companies will be donating consumer items to be sold at the Fair at reduced prices as we create a microcosm of the nation’s commercial life. We would appreciate donations of items from you which can be sold at the Fair. All proceeds will go towards the ” HELLO NEIGHBOUR” fund. Donations in cash are also accepted. ONE LAST REQUEST: Until May 23, 2007, we are asking you to change your recorded greeting on your phones to: “GRAND FUND-RAISING FAIR AT THE POLICE OFFICERS CLUB ON LABOUR DAY, WEDNESDAY, MAY 23, PLEASE BE THERE! SEE YOU THERE” Plenty plenty thanks See you there!!
