For 1-2 hours we got hurricane force winds that rocked our world, but we survived. Mostly a few trees and utility poles are down. Mostly we are without water and electricity, but everyone is saying we were spared the worst and we should be back on track by next week. If you have pictures of Hurricane Dean (in Portmore) please send them to me for posting. Please view my pictures of the hurricane at: http://www.portmore.info/album/portmore-weather/album002.html We are covering political activity in Portmore... therefore go to the following pages to see what we have so far. Other items will soon be posted! Again, please send me your pictures for posting. So the perception that we didn't really need to worry about hurricanes took root; when doing some research on Jamaica's hurricanes when I started the web site in the weeks after Ivan, I saw that the Brits in Jamaica in the later 17th century got much the same impression; then they got a nasty shock with the hurricane of 1712! My site on Jamaica's hurricane history has been getting quite a few hits the last three days! The power is due to be turned off about 10 am; I shall be waiting anxiously to see how soon we can get the power back after Dean goes by, so that I can get back online! CitiZen" Subject: Re: Portmore E-newsletter : Emanci-pendence events! To: portmoreinfo-owner@yahoogroups.com Kennedy, It seem that Politicians think that people are real idots. I saw Colin Fagan on TV promising to make representation for the people of Portmore in matters that affect them and asking them to vote for him based on this promise. It is sad that Colin had an awsome opportunity to represent the poeple but decided to look the other way. No other issue will be as big as the toll issue, and when I see Politicians ignore the cry of the poeple, they really have no shame or heart.. He obviously is in it for the money.. Can not be because he has the interest of the poeple at heart. Who does he think he is fooling.. Dog Naam wi supper if PNP win, because, they have been obsorbing the toll increase till after the election. All hell will break loose, and if Colin Fagan or Fitz Jackson wins, they will now have all rights to sh*t in our face. I am a resident of 3 East, and it is becoming a problem with young boys leaving school without a hope or what to do, and therefore ends up in idle groups, sitting about the place smoking ganja and God knows what else. Another problem is the residents who plants big trees that are not trimmed and cover walk ways which gets dark especially at nights, I would like to know who is responsible for the trimming of these trees because people are being held up by thugs at nights and even in broad day light, and they get away because no one can see what is taking place when you are totally hidden by these trees. Could you send me the agency that is responsible, I am not sure if it is the portmore municipal council so I could write to them. Thank you. Webmaster's Reply --------------- On the matter of the trees, try the owners first and then try the Municipal Council. On the matter of the youth, we are all concerned. Try speaking to them then pointing them in the best direction. We need a revolution in the Education system... starting with subjects offered and motivating teachers. Pray!
