Portmore Planning Authority On Nov. 22, 1999 Cabinet gave approval for the establishment of a Portmore Planning Authority. This body will oversee development and land use issues in Portmore. We applaud the appointment of Councilor George Lee (Former President of the Portmore Joint Citizens Association) as board Chairman.
We look forward to orderly development in Portmore and the enforcement of regulations and building codes.

The NWC
The NWC's Old Harbour Office is now open. It's located at South Street in the Square (facing the police station. Starting in January 2000, the Old Harbour Office will be opened on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
On another matter; If you have a problem with you billing or balances you may call 998-7364. Customers who HAVE NOT been receiving bills should report this to 998-7364.

JPS has removed, as part of an onging program, the connections seen on the Causeway. Steps have been taken to make that section of road difficult to tamper with.

Calling young persons in Portmore to a Career Fair at the Greater Portmore High School on Wednesday November 24. Take this as you invitation. Schools from all over Portmore are expected to participate as well as a number of Training Agencies. Several VIPs from Portmore are expected to be there for the opening. Guest Speaker will be Patricia Isaacs Green and later in the day Jody-ann Maxwell will join us.

Dr. Paul Robertson (Minister of Gov. & MP)
announced the following at a meeting of PJCA :1) A statement of Intent has been issued for the contract to build a second causeway bridge
2) The Infomatic Center in Portmore is even more attractive with the agreement with C&W Jamaica. Portmore
is to gear itself to employ many persons there. All 50,000 sq ft of the Center has been rented.
3) There is to be a "Lift UP Jamaica" project that will move the squatters on the Causeway.
4) There is a focus on the repair of the collasped drains and on the repair of the Dyke Rd and Port Henderson Rd.
5) He expressed concern about news of Criminal activity and will be speaking with the authorities on this matter.

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission;
JCDC PORTMORE is seeking girls between 18 - 24 to enter Miss Portmore Festival Queen Competition. Prizes include $70,000 to $100,000 in cash and prizes! Girls will need to be culturally aware and active in the community (please note : this is NOT a beauty contest. No bathsuit competition).
Additionally, all 48 communities of Portmore are invited to representatives to the meeting of the JCDC. It meets every other Monday. Next meeting is on Nov.15 at 8 p.m. in the Aphitheather in the Portmore Mall.

The Jamaica Police Federation will be hosting a fund raising SOCA BINGO on Saturday, November 27, 1999 starting at 7:00p.m. This will take place at the St. Catherine South Divisional Head Quarters (Portmore 100 man station). The main prize will be a whopping J$150,000.00! As if that's not enough, there will be other attractive prizes. These include a fridge, microwave, stove and a gate prize of a weekend for two at a Super Club hotel.Cost is only J$300.00. The proceeds will go toward the Police Federation Charity.
