The Hiway2000 will have a 6 lane Causeway being built for Portmore.
We should have some form of Municipality by January 2002. This will be part of the Local Gov. Reform. Plus, the authorities want to collect more from us to pay for specific services. A paper on this is on the site. Go to the Portmore Secretariat page... www.portmore.org/plps
The Infomatic Park is scheduled to be open in August 2001. There were technical problems that delayed the opening!
In 2003 the Port Royal Development Project should be on the way. Portmore should benefit from Tourism.
Rumour has it that the Forum Hotel (the tallest building in Portmore) has been sold by government to a popular (and very rich) Portmore Church. No confirmation yet!

Hi,
Do you know if the bridge that is situated near the Bridgeport High School is being attended to. It seems as if the bridge is either separating from the road or the road is sinking. Whenever a vehicle is travelling from bridgeport direction towards Cactus round about, the driver either has to slow down to cross or drive on the right of the bridge.
This needs to be address before the road actually separates from the bridge.
Can you tell me if the relevant authority is aware?
RESPONSE FROM WEBMASTER: Sorry, I have no information. Please call the Parish Council. The Secretry Manager is on this list. He MAY see your e-mail and MAY answer, but do call.

============================================== Edited Joint Council's Annual Report - 2000-1 ==============================================
Chairman's Report AGM of the Greater Portmore Joint Council May 26, 2001
Special Guests, members and friends, ... This report covers the years May 19, 2000 to May 26, 2001.
The Greater Portmore Joint Council was formed approximately seven years ago with the explicit intention of uniting the citizens of Greater Portmore. ... we have continued this tradition .
[In May 2000] the members of the council were out on the streets of Greater Portmore demonstrating. ... about [the cows, the hospital, the hand over of Greater Portmore to the Parish Council, and demand that the containers sewn around the community at the time be removed.] ... On June 17th 2000 the containers were removed... Months later ... Greater Portmore [was handed] over to the Parish Council. ... We walked in the "March for Peace" organised by popular talk show host Ms. Antoinette Houghton, later in the year we protested the soot from the Bernard Lodge estate. [Over the year] we appeared on many media events.
In June of 2000 we were ... very proud to have the Greater Portmore Branch library open. ... [We] played a key role in this 6 million-dollar effort. The library's computer service has been a huge success.
In July 2000 [we held a retreat in] Spanish Town. [As a result] many letters were sent to various persons and organisations and our resolutions were aired on television. ...
In September 2000 [there was the] ground breaking for ... the Greater Portmore Sports Complex . At the event, the Minister promised 1.5 million for the Complex. ... In the year, Kennedy Reid became the chairman of the Sports Complex Committee and has been ... planning fund raising.
In November 2000 members of the Council played major roles in the Portmore Evacuation Simulation Exercise organised by the ODP/EM even though Greater Portmore was not a part of the exercise. ... the Council finished its Greater Portmore Disaster Plan...
In December 2000 we welcomed and hosted ... 17 NetCorp participants from the National Youth Corp and Canada ...
There have been no major activities since January 2001, but we continued to work behind the scenes on very important matters. ...
[This year we finally got] our first set of JPs and The Council was recognised for its use of technology by the NHT at its Best Scheme Competition Awards Ceremony.
Ladies and gentlemen , our short time tonight does not allow me to detail everything done by our individual Association Members this year. ... We are very proud of the countless fund raising efforts of the various associations, the Labour Day projects, and the neighbourhood watch programs launched. ...
I thank, on behalf of the Council, all our political leaders for their support. I need to distinguish MP Ftiz Jackson for his continued support and his donation of $500,000 to the library. Also, I need to mention Councilor Lee for his consistent support. ... I thank the SDC for the 2 million dollars it donated to the Library ... Thanks to the NHT for its continued community support. Thanks to the Police Force, who in the absence of any other municipal authority, have been helping to keep the community sane. Thanks to the schools which continue to host our activities.
I absolutely must thank the executive members. ... Finally, I thank all of you our members. We were to few doing too much! I encourage every one of us to stay committed to the tasked build a better Greater Portmore and a better Jamaica.
May God bless us even more this year ... 2000 - 2001.
God bless you all.

That's a rap! Bye for now everyone!
Kennedy Reid
